Spey Casting: The Anchor

Getting a consistent anchor is the key to good spey casting. A good anchor has just the right amount of line on the water to prevent the line from going completely airborn behind you and not so much as to rob the cast of energy. It will be about a rods length away from your body and slightly in front of you. The line will lay flat and clean on the water as opposed to crashing down on it unevenly. I shot the following video using a helmet cam with the aim at demonstrating a good clean anchor as well as bad ones from a first person point of view. When spey casting always watch your anchor as I am here. That will tell you everything you need to know about your cast. Hope this helps!
